In line with the Dr Bosun Tijani’s Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy 1%-10%-100% implementation approach, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
This is coming a few hours after the novel ministry launched an Artificial Intelligence Scheme to empower the country’s tech startups and researchers.
Disclosed via NITDA X handle, the 3MTT programme is expected to be in three phases but the first phase, which is just launched, will aim to train and place 30,000 technical talents, representing 1% of its overall target.
The 3MTT will be “executed based on the framework co-created with key stakeholders across government agencies, training providers, educational institutions, development agencies and the private sector,” NITDA noted.
The first phase of the programme will be executed as a fellowship model. This means that for the course of a certain period, the programme will provide sponsored fellowship programme to train interested applicants on different technical skills.
The fellowship programme of the NITDA 3MTT initiative will provide training on the following 12 skills;
- Software Development
- UI/UX Design
- Data Analysis & Visualisation
- Quality Assurance
- Product Management
- Data Science
- Animation
- AI / Machine Learning
- Cybersecurity
- Game Development
- Cloud Computing
- Dev Ops.
3MTT NITDA initiative is expected to select individuals with interest in the 12 listed skills and fund the cost of their training with training providers accepted into the programme.
NITDA said, 3MTT programme is a critical part of the Renewed Hope agenda, which is “aimed at building Nigeria’s technical talent backbone to power our digital economy and position Nigeria as a net talent exporter. The first phase of the programme, executed in collaboration with NITDA, will involve multiple stakeholders including fellows, training providers, partners and placement organisations.”
