Mastercard Foundation Opens Application for 2026 Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge is now open for applications for the 2026/27 academic year.
The initiative offers talented young Africans the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree at one of the world’s leading universities while developing their leadership potential. By 2030, more than 500 students will have enrolled, undertaking diverse master’s courses with a shared commitment to driving sustainable change across Africa and beyond.

The program strongly encourages applications from women, refugees, internally displaced persons, and people with disabilities.
Eligibility for MasterCard Foundation 2026 ApplicationÂ
Applicants must:
1. Hold a bachelor’s degree.
2. Meet the academic entry requirements of their chosen course (ranging from a UK upper second-class to a first-class equivalent).
3. Be from, and reside in, an African country (temporary residence outside Africa for work or study is acceptable).
4. Apply for an eligible full-time master’s course, excluding:
- Â Â Master of Accountancy (MACC)
- Â Â Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Â Â Master of Corporate Law (MCL)
- Â Â Master of Finance (MFIN)
5. Demonstrate commitment to community service, sustainability, and climate resilience.
Scholarship Benefits
The award covers:
- Full tuition fees
- Monthly maintenance allowance
- Laptop provision
- Visa fees, health surcharge, and travel expenses
Application Process
Applications for postgraduate study open in September 2025 for courses commencing in October 2026. The scholarship application is embedded within the course application.
Steps include:
1. Select your course through the Postgraduate Course Directory and begin your application.
2. If eligible, request an application fee waiver (deadline: 15 November 2025).
3. Indicate your interest in funding and complete the Mastercard Foundation scholarship statement.
4. Submit your application by your course’s funding deadline (early December 2025 or early January 2026).
5. Departments review applications between December 2025 and February 2026.
6. The Mastercard Foundation team conducts final selection in late February – early March 2026, with offers issued in March/April 2026.
7. Successful candidates must submit any outstanding documents (such as English proficiency results) by 31 July 2026.
