PIJAlance@2: Celebrating Grit for Independent Journalism and Community Development

It’s already another year. We’re two years old. Welcome, the celebration of grit.

PIJAlance Magazine, was established to report unbiased information that matters while fighting injustice and giving voice to the marginalised. We’re happy to write that the celebration is personal to us and is dedicated to rewarding our GRIT FOR INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.

So far, our journalism has amplified the voices of the unheard and has made the wronged, get justice. The chief out all was the cost of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), top-up programme, which was formerly N1.8m, dropped by %40 after our story.

Our independent journalism has also uncovered the biggest procurement fraud in Oyo State, and the public project jettisoned despite award, among others. But beyond all these, much ado.

Nigeria, the bank of the ‘investigables’, is tough for Independent Journalism. It can struggle to get heard, when heard, and struggle to get delivery of its goodwill message. If it, however, powerfully delivers, getting past the frivolity of lawsuits, threats and cyber attacks will always and ever be difficult.

In the past years, the PIJAlance Magazine’s blossoming lotus of grits, dedicated to developmental journalism through critical and accountability reporting, has seen daredevils—men of the underworld—waged war to uproot it. PIJAlance Magazine saw a ban, silent threats, and a distributed denial-of-service (DDos) attack that left our website inactive for two consecutive days.

But beyond all these, we’re sorry to disappoint you that we’re not backing down. This is the reason our editorial team tagged this celebration, of GRIT. We have got the grit and the will to carry on with the community service best served through our type of public-centric journalism. And we’re hopeful with your support, we’re undefeated!
