Tech Piracy: Zuckerberg’s Ways Of Building Meta Demands The ‘Purloining’ Of Tech Giants Ideas

The pursuit of a Metaverse by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta company has led to some controversial strategies. It is undeniable that to achieve this ambitious goal, Meta has had to acquire multiple companies to add to their pool of talents and technologies. The acquisition of Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus VR, among others, were all done in a bid to build the Metaverse. However, Meta’s CEO has recently deviated from this traditional acquisition strategy and embarked on a new method – transfer tech piracy.

 

This new strategy involves stealing or purloining other tech giants’ ideas and incorporating them into the building of Meta without their consent. It is a bold move that has already seen Meta integrate a channel on Instagram, a feature that was only previously available on Telegram. This move clearly indicates that Meta is willing to adopt any means necessary to realize its Metaverse vision, even if it means “killing many inventions and stealing numerous innovations.”

 

While Meta’s acquisition strategy has been criticized in the past for reducing competition, the new transfer technology piracy strategy has sparked even more controversy. It raises ethical questions about whether it is right to steal and adapt other companies’ ideas without their permission.

 

Meta’s acquisition history is extensive, with notable acquisitions such as Instagram, Onavo, WhatsApp, Oculus VR, Beat Games, Giphy, and Kustomer, among others. Each acquisition was done with the aim of building the Metaverse, and they have all contributed in one way or another to Meta’s success. However, the acquisition of Giphy was met with regulatory scrutiny, and Meta was fined $70 million by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority for failing to report all information regarding the acquisition and the ongoing antitrust investigation.

Despite this, Meta remains committed to its Metaverse vision, and the acquisition of Lofelt, a haptic tech startup, in September 2022, shows that the company is willing to invest heavily in the vision. The Oculus Lead, Jason Rubin, has proposed a 50-page plan to execute the vision and ensure that Meta shuts out HTC, Apple, Google, and other competitors in the VR space. The plan’s emphasis is on executing fast and investing heavily, even if it means purloining other tech giants’ ideas.

 

Moreover, we cannot hide the facts that Meta has improved most of these platforms acquired in many ways.

 

Nevertheless, Meta’s pursuit of the Metaverse has led to the adoption of controversial strategies. While the company’s traditional acquisition strategy has been focused on acquiring companies to add to their pool of talents and technologies, the new transfer technology piracy strategy has raised ethical questions. However, Meta remains committed to its vision, and its acquisition history shows that the company is willing to invest heavily to make it a reality. Only time will tell whether these strategies will pay off and whether the Metaverse will become a reality.
