88 year-old Hajiya Aminatu Bintu, stepmother of a controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is dead.
Hajiya Bintu was the widow of the late Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi — an outspoken Islamic scholar and Grand Khadi of the Northern Region of Nigeria (1962–1967), and mother of Brigadier General Abdulkadir Gumi.
The newsmen learnt she died after a brief illness on Saturday at 44th Military General Hospital, Kaduna.
Prayers will be offered at the Mosque of the late Sheikh Abubakar Mahmdu Gumi, where Gumi now resides in Kaduna.
She was buried according to Islamic rites by 4:00 pm on Saturday.
Confirming her demise, Gumi in a terse statement on his official Facebook page obtained by The Nation, said: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. It’s sad to say, We have just lost our stepmother Haj. Aminatu Bintu this morning after a brief illness.
“Insha Allah, Janazah prayer will be after Asr prayers @ No.11 Modibbo Adama Road, Kaduna. May Allah Have His Mercy upon her. Amin”
