Releasing Aminu Muhammad, Aisha Buhari Bows
Following the detention of Aminu Mohammed, a final year student of Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State by the Nigeria Police for criticizing the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has been released after threat from National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
As gathered from a Twitter post through TheNationNews, the 24 years Mohammed who was detained in late November was released on Friday, December 2nd, 2022 after the President’s wife withdrawal of the charge against him.
Earlier before his release, the student body, NANS, led by the National President, Comrade Usman Barambu, had issued a Press Release on December 1st, 2022 to both the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari for an immediate release of Mohammed on or before 5th of December, else a National wide protest begins.
According to the ultimatum letter by
NANS, it called for the immediate release of their colleague “who was arrested in questionable manner, tortured, molested, harassed and detained by agents of government”, on or before the aforementioned date for nationwide protest.
Before he was released, the case was reported by the Abuja CP to a High Court sitting in Abuja, the Nation’s Capital Territory Abuja Judicial Division which Mohammed was accused of sharing screenshot pictures of the President’s wife, Aisha between the month of May and June, 2022 with an offensive text through his Twitter page @aminullahie aka Catalyst, of what was described as capable of ruining her reputation as First Lady.
According to the information released by the court, the text with the picture stated in Hausa language: “Su Mama anchi kudi talakawa” which means in English language: “Mama has embezzled monies meant for the poor to satisfaction”, and was described as false allegation.
The court however described the information as false and an offence punishable under Section 391 of the Panel Code, and was signed on November 21, 2022 by the Prosecuting Councils, James Idachaba ESQ and Fidelis Ogbobe Esq, on 23rd November, 2022.
