Popular Influencer Bobrisky Arrested for Third Time This Year
Popular Social Media Personality, Okuneye Idris, well known as Bobrisky has recently been arrested making it his third arrest in 2024.
Bobrisky was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight and detained by some immigration officers late on Thursday night on attempt to flee the country.
However, Bobrisky immediately posted on his Instagram page alerting his followers on the recent arrest, stating that he had sustained several injuries during an altercation with the immigration officers.
According to Bobrisky, he alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is responsible for his detention. “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured,” he said.
Meanwhile, recall that on 22 October, Bobrisky was intercepted at the Sème border while allegedly attempting to leave the country.
Tracing the genesis of the controversy involving Bobrisky began in April 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in Kirikiri Prison by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for naira abuse, which report sparked social media that Bobrisky spent only three weeks in the facility before being discreetly moved to a private location.
The widespread speculation had it that his early release
and special treatment were facilitated through bribery, with accusations of a ₦15 million payment made to officials to secure his transfer and preferential conditions, making the situation linger till late September 2024 when social media influencer VeryDarkMan posted an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky.
However, in the leaked recording, Bobrisky purportedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, had approached him during his imprisonment, seeking ₦10 million to secure a presidential pardon.
In response, Falana and Falz issued a cease-and-desist letter on 16 October 2024, demanding a retraction and public apology for what they described as defamatory statements.
The Crossdresser, Bobrisky, denied making these claims, stating he was not responsible for the leaked content as well as urging the Falanas to hold VeryDarkMan accountable instead.
