PHOTOS: Corpse Found in Oyo’s Community Fish Pond
Residents of Attaoheed-Omoosin area of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Oyo State, have been thrown into a fresh chill of panic, after an unidentified corpse was discovered floating on a deserted fish pond.
Authorities have since removed the body from the scene while promising to get to the root of the cause, as soon as possible.
But the incident has led to the owner of a house around the fish pond been arrested.
Sources say men of the Nigerian Police Force arrested the owner in connection with the incident though, was later released on bail after hearing his vindication.
The corpse was last floating on the fish pond on the morning of the last Saturday. A resident who was about to practice an open defecation around the fish pond, say he discovered the corpse and quickly alerted the authorities.
“When he went to the bus to defecate he saw the corpse,” a community leader who pleaded anonymity said to a local newspaper in Ogbomoso, The Insight. “He promptly raised an alarm and we promptly informed the police, who came for confirmation. They said they would submit their report to the FIre Brigade people. This is as the officials of the environmental health office of the local government were informed. They promised to get the corpse evacuated.”
The Director of Environmental Health Department in Ogbomoso North local government, Mrs. Ojo Samson, has said “the needful would be done promptly.”
Meanwhile, the owner of the fish pond where the corpse had been found was said to have travelled 10 days ago.
The identity of the corpse had not been unraveled, “He’s not a resident of the area,” it was said. And it’s not known whether he died in the pond or his corpse was dumped there.
