PANIC: Freshyo Drink Develops Fungi before Due Date, Mother Raises Alarm After Drinking It With Children, Unknowingly
"I had already drunk a part of it, honestly, I cannot lie. I don't know what to do..." The woman submitted sobbingly.
On 24th January 2023, a woman allegedly approached Instablog9ja with her painful ordeals as far as she, her children and Blue Boat Freshyo are concerned. It was a story of how she and her children have drunk some poisonous Freshyo drinks, unknowingly.
In a video released to explain her ordeal and posted by Instablog9ja, PIJAlance RID Team saw some strawberry Freshyo packs emptied with their contents splintered on the floor, and some other packs too were yet to be emptied. A voice, later identified to be the voice of the mother of children who has drank the contents of the Freshyo before discovering its decadence, also tearfully spoke underneath.
In some of her speeches, she said she bought the strawberry Freshyo from a supermarket (unidentified) with the hope to be giving her children when going to school, every day.
“I bought them because of my babies so I can be giving them every day when going to school. I have given them some before I now later said, let me also take for myself. I am a baby too,” she stated.
The lady added that she had already drank the content in the packs before she identified that it has already expired though, “the expected expiring date written on the pack is on May 3, 2023,” the woman added.
“Fellow parents… I had already drunk a part of it, honestly, I cannot lie. I don’t know what to do…” The woman submitted sobbingly.

Despite a series of harsh comments under Instablog9ja’s post, not even Blue Boat Freshyo or NAFDAC have made an official statement regarding the issue. All attempts to get in touch with the brand by PIJAlance RID, remain futile.
Worthy of note, inside the strawberry Freshyo, as seen in the video was a similitude of mould of thick Fungus, incorrigibly proving inseparable from the liquid content of the drink. When deeply look, it appears the fungi was a bacteria with the capability of adverse effects on any human contact.
Nutritional experts like Pitt, John I, Hocking, and Ailsa D, have written that Fungi are seen as a method of food spoilage, causing only an undesirable appearance to food. Fungi according to them can cause the death of many people spanning hundreds of years in many places throughout the world. Fungi are caused by acidifying, fermenting, discolouring and disintegrating processes and can create fuzz, powder and slimes of many different colours, including black, white, red, brown and green.
Also, in their Nutritional book published by the Oxford University Press, Tull, and Anita have written that “Bacteria are responsible for some of the spoilage of food,” adding that “When bacteria break down the food, acids and other waste products are generated in the process. While the bacteria itself may or may not be harmful, the waste products may be unpleasant to taste or may even be harmful to one’s health.
“There are two types of pathogenic bacteria that target different categories of food. The first type is called Clostridium botulinum which targets food such as meat and poultry, and Bacillus cereus, which targets milk and cream. When stored or subjected to unruly conditions, the organisms will begin to breed apace, releasing harmful toxins that can cause severe illness, even when cooked safely.”
No medical proof that the drinks were affected with Bacillus cereus but none of the evidence left the drinks and their brand blameless of how a fungus ricocheted into a sealed strawberry Freshyo.
Until now, none of the family members who drank the contents of the spoilt strawberry Freshyo was physically easy to be located.
Authorities like NAFDAC and Federal Government should prob Freshyo Brand in time so that this will not adversely affect families taking the drink across Nigeria.
