Sleep is a natural phenomenon that no matter what you do, you will surely encounter its effects. You can decide to skip your sleep for a day or more but it will make you cranky the next day.
Melatonin is a sleep hormone that signals the brain it is time for your body to relax. It is primarily high at night and be released by the pineal gland located in the brain.
EFFECT OF LACK OF SLEEP
Medically and according to the current research, an average adult should at least sleep for 6 to 7 hours per day while younger ones should have 10 to 12 hours of sleep per day to boost the body physical and mental health. Lack of sleep has done more harm than good to people especially to the students who are constantly depriving themselves sleep because of their examinations. Most students take stimulatory drugs or drinks just to be awake throughout the night thereby making them unproductive the next day.
Lack of sleep can make people prone to severe medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancers.
