A Nigerian-British police officer, Shola Balogun, has been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police Service for biting a colleague at a birthday party in Bexleyheath, Kent.
The incident occurred on April 22, 2022, during a 40th birthday celebration for another police officer at Goals Sports Bar, where about 70 people were in attendance.
According to reports, Balogun and the victim, whose name has been withheld, were colleagues at Bromley Police Station and had a friendly working relationship.
However, on the night of the incident, Balogun allegedly grabbed the victim’s glasses and dropped them on the floor, then pushed him in the throat area before biting him on the right side of his face.
Balogun disputed the victim’s account, claiming he accidentally knocked the glasses off. Despite this, a disciplinary hearing chaired by high-ranking officer Christopher McKay found Balogun guilty of misconduct and dismissed him from the force.
The hearing, held from October 21-23, 2024, concluded that Balogun’s actions were unacceptable and warranted dismissal.
The panel members included IPM Amanda Harvey and Assessor-Detective Superintendent Kirsty Mead.
This incident highlights the importance of maintaining professional conduct, even in social settings.
