Netflix, not surprisingly, has announced a second season renewal for Wednesday, the coming-of-age supernatural comedy based on the classic TV character Wednesday Addams. Headlined by Jenna Ortega, the series follows Wednesday as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.

Netflix is reporting 1.237 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days for Wednesday, which debuted on November 23, 2022. And Wednesday crossed the 1 billion hour view mark only three weeks after debut – joining the fourth season of Stranger Things and Squid Game as the third title to reach this milestone within its first four weeks. Streaming data, of course, is still in its infancy and not readily available to the general public.

The critics, no doubt, have taken positive notice of Wednesday. The series as been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards: Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Jenna Ortega Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Emmy attention is expected to follow.

“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world.,” said creators/showrunners/executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in an interview with Tudum.com. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
