The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a directive prohibiting licensed flight crew members from operating for multiple airlines, effective November 11, 2024.
This decision comes after surveillance reports revealed that flight crew members were utilizing their privilege simulators and proficiency checks to operate for more than one airline.
According to Capt. Chris Najomo, the acting Director-General of NCAA said, “This practice poses a significant safety risk to the industry. Surveillance reports revealed that flight crew members use their privilege simulators and proficiency checks to operate for more than one airline.”
The statement in detail stated: “It has come to the notice of the authority through our surveillance reports that licensed flight crew members utilize the privileges simulators and proficiency checks endorsed on their license to operate for multiple airlines.
“The Flight Simulator Training Device/facility approved by the Authority is operator-specific based on the training program and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for such an operator. Instances where pilots operate for more than one oiling concurrently without safety considerations of such actions poses a safety risk to the industry.
“With effect from the date of issuance of this directive, all operators and holders of pilot licence are informed that this action will be treated as a violation of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations. The Authority will take appropriate enforcement action on violators of this directive, effective from November 11, 2024. Simulator renewals from henceforth will be tied to the operator.”
The NCAA has warned that violators will face enforcement action, and simulator renewals will be tied to the operator. This move aims to ensure that flight crew members operate in compliance with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations.
