NAPPS Kwara Protest Over ‘illegal Taxation’ Gov Abdulrazaq Imposes On Them

Teaming members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Kwara State Chapter protested against the Kwara State Government in Ilorin, the state capital, on Thursday.

 

Proprietors, who trooped out in large numbers, were seen holding different placards with different inscriptions such as “We say NO to inhuman Treatment of private schools in Kwara”, “WAEC/NECO are not Tax Collectors in Kwara state”, “WAEC/NECO are now tools for oppressing private schools in Kwara state” among others.

 

Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq-led government has given them unfavourable terrain for practice through ‘inhumane educational policies’ which result in “fraudulent multiple taxations,” NAPPS members had said.

 

Contributing correspondent of PIJAlance learnt that educationists besieged Governor’s office to show their anger. They described Governor Abdulrazaq’s government as that which is using the name of prominent examination bodies such as the West African Examinations Council and National Examination Council to extort illegal taxation from private school owners in the state.

 

They thereafter gave the government 72 hours to attend to their grievances or risk mass occupation and shut down the Ministry of Education.

 

However, reacting to this Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, the Kwara State Chief Press Secretary cryptically directed PIJAlance to speak with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.

 

“It is the agency in charge of tax services. Thank you,” He stated.

 

Nigeria Union of Teachers Kwara State Chapter has also said they don’t know about the NAPPS protest. “NAPPS is an independent body, operating on its own and whenever they don’t call us to their events, we don’t either to ours,” NUT President, Bashir Oyewo had told PIJAlance.
