NAOSS: Students must choose either being asset or liability to society — Hon. Olatunji

The Chief whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Lekan Olatunji has said students must be determined while they are in schools whether they will be an asset to the society or liability to the society.

 

He said this during an interview with our correspondent in the National Association of Osun State Students, (NAOSS) Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Chapter Oratory Contest held at the Institution’s New Lecture Hall One.

Honourable Olatunji said, students must learn how to live life with careful planning, dedications, commitments and backed it up with actions by so doing they will help the society and help themselves.

 

“There is difference between unemployment and unemployable. Some students when they graduate don’t have the content forgetting that the glory of the certificate is just on the day of the graduation. The usage of the certificate always lies within you.

 

“To today and to tomorrow, MTN, Oil companies and other big companies in nigeria and Africa are still looking for whom to employ. Go on google and type job vacancies in any of these companies, you’ll find a litany of them listed.

 

“What makes you continually say there is no job is because you cannot meet with the criteria of these companies.

 

“You must learn to live life with careful planning with dedications, commitments and backed it up with actions.”

 

Olatunji said part of the job of the Government is to help the students but for education to work properly in Nigeria, tertiary institutions must be committed to helping government generate revenues by establishing different means of generating incomes for government with their hectares of lands and not just living it idle. While government also, would not stop helping, students on the other hand must commit themselves to learn to feed their capacities.

 

He said, students should not to learn just to pass in their respective institutions but learn to have capacity to defend their certificate outside campus.

 

Low Reading Spirit Necessitate NAOSS Oratory Contest — Ospoly Chap. NAOSS President

 

The Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, NAOSS president, Comrade Faniran Solomon (K-solo), has said low reading and intuitive spirit necessitated the birth of the contest.

He said, some students have been so down in reading, learning and generally on their IQ capacity. The contest is to eradicate these.

 

The Incumbent also commended the participants, across all local governments, of the oratory contest and as well the selected winners.

 

He enjoined participants who could not make it to the winning points that there is no losers or winners; all “of us” are learners. Pressing forward that they should brace up.

 

NAOSS Oratory Contest Was Lit — Winners

The selected winners of the just concluded NAOSS Oratory Contest have said it was a lit and awe-inspiring one.

Abdulazeez Yusuf, who came first representing Irepodun local government, from the department of Mass Communication in Ospoly extends his gratitude to God (Allah) and his mentor, whom to him, was the one that put him through ways that led him to won.

 

Likewise, Irinoye Benjamin who sees the contest as a means of building himself, came out second representing Odo-otin local government, from the same Institution, Banking and Finance department.

 

Adedire Odunayo Isaiah who sees himself as a winner and the contest as an atmosphere to help him maximize a little opportunuty given on to him, came out third representing Ife East local government. He is a student of the institution, from the department of Mass Communication.

 

However, the contest has in total all local governments under Osun Central Senatorial District, Osun West Senatorial District and Osun East Senatorial district, though not all local governments participated, amidst of whom who participated three cut above all while there are also runners up.

 

Other notable attendees of the event were one of the senior Lecturers in the department of Mass Communication, Mr Aderemi Adeagbo, the Institution’s alumni; Comrade Ajayi Folaranmi Richardson, Comrade Olaniyi Ridwan and Comrade Majesty.
