Meta Launches Paid Sub for creators to make money on Instagram, BBNaija Pere Unlock It
Creators can now charge their loyal fans for their exclusive contents
As Social Media Platforms continue to improve for content creators to have their share in the creators’ economy, the parent of Instagram, Meta has launched a new feature tagged “EARN WITH SUBSCRIPTION” for content creators on Instagram.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram had earlier on November 4 announced that the platform has added three different ways content creators can make money on the platform with their exclusive content and earn with a subscription, was included. The other two were the inclusion of stars and gifts, NFTs and digital collectables.
With the new paid subscription on Instagram, creators can now get paid monthly for their respective exclusive content being viewed and consumed by their loyal fans.
Fans will have to necessarily pay a subscription fee for an amount chosen by the creator to have access to any creator’s exclusive content for a month.
There will be a designated blue badge for any paid subscribers and the badge will be displayed on the top right of their username as it appears on reels, videos, uploads and any other aspect on Instagram.
However, Instagram did not make it known whether the whole money charged by the creators who are using paid subscription button will be completely given to them or a slashed per cent will be gulped by it.
The earn with subscription feature is only available for the creators in the US but Instagram has also promised that will be expanding to the UK, Canada and Australia on an invitation basis.
It never made mention of China, Russia, India, other countries and even Africa continent. But promised it is testing the feature so, it will be sending invitations to eligible creators as time goes by.
Pere, one of the Big Brother Naija Season 6 Housemates, has unlocked the feature on his Instagram profile, making exclusive content of him reserved only to subscribed fans while unsubscribed fans get normal content.
A close examination of his Instagram profile shows that some of his posts were still viewable which further put the feature on the test for other content creators planning to unlock the features.
Pere is one of the few, probably the first in Nigeria to get the feature unlocked.
