The Kano State Government has announced that landowners in the state have until January 31, 2025, to register or renew their Certificates of Occupancy.
This directive, issued by the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Umar, emphasizes the need for residents to secure their land titles under the new system.
According to Umar, all current Certificates of Occupancy will become invalid after the deadline, marking a significant shift in how land ownership is documented and secured in Kano State.
“This administration is committed to making land documentation affordable, seamless, and secure,” Umar said. “The new system at KANGIS eliminates manual processes, reduces errors, prevents manipulation of land records, and expedites transaction processing.”

The commissioner highlighted several advantages of the new system, including enhanced reliability of land documentation, reduced forgery and criminal activities, and simplified procedures for verifying and updating land ownership.
Umar urged all property owners and individuals holding interests in land across the state to visit the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to recertify their properties before the deadline. He emphasized that the process safeguards their investments and ensures their property rights are secure.
“This exercise is crucial for protecting the aspirations of the people and guaranteeing the security of their property investments,” Umar stated.
The Kano State Government’s move to recertify land titles is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and security in land transactions. With the new system in place, residents can expect more efficient services and enhanced protection of their property rights.
