Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has announced that members of his cabinet who were laid off following a recent reshuffle will be reassigned to new roles.
The governor made this promise after a State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, where he also dismissed speculation surrounding the cabinet reshuffle.
Through a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the governor insisted that the reshuffle was necessary to enhance governance and fulfill the administration’s campaign promises.
“In recent times, we made some decisions in the administration, including a cabinet reshuffle. As a result of this action, some lost their positions in the cabinet, while others were reassigned to serve in another capacity. Let me remind the public that the action taken was in the best interest of the good people of Kano.”
He emphasized that the decision was taken in good faith and aimed at injecting renewed energy into the administration.
“We have promised to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. Unfortunately, we are already short of time to deliver what we promised. So, we need to effect changes to speed up the process. We have reshuffled the cabinet to improve the system,” the governor added.
The reshuffle affected several high-ranking officials, including five commissioners, the Secretary to the State Government, and the Chief of Staff.
However, Governor Yusuf assured those removed from their positions that they remain valued members of the administration and would be reassigned to other roles.
“We have not dropped those affected for life. We have other jobs for them, so I want everybody to accept the decision the way it is. As for those reassigned, we urge them to bring their previous experiences to bear in their new roles,” he said.
The cabinet reshuffle is part of the administration’s efforts to accelerate the delivery of development projects. Governor Yusuf emphasized the need for efficiency and promised to bring fresh ideas to drive social and infrastructural development in Kano State.
In a related development, seven newly appointed commissioners, recently screened and cleared by the state assembly, will join the next executive council meeting. Their respective portfolios will be assigned during the meeting.
With the cabinet reinvigorated, Governor Yusuf expressed optimism about the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises.
