Sokoto State Government has raised an alarm over the transformation of a faith-based idealist group which suddenly turns out to be a new terrorist group called LAKURAWAS, possessing sophisticated weapons.
The group’s activities have been observed in about five local government areas of the state, posing a significant threat to the lives and properties of citizens.
The development was confirmed by the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, “Assessment carried out indicated that the group possessed sophisticated weapons and their criminal activities were observed in about five local government areas of the state.”
He added that the development is particularly concerning as the state is already grappling with banditry activities as well as working closely with federal security agencies to address the emerging threat and has made various efforts to confront security challenges.
“The state government has been working closely with Federal Security Agencies to address numerous security threats to lives and properties of the people of the state.”
Gobir emphasized the importance of collaboration and strategic planning to tackle the growing security concerns. He expressed hope that a study tour by participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, would provide valuable insights and solutions to ensure security and peaceful coexistence.
According to the leader of the delegation, Air Vice Marshal Titus Zuwahu Dauda, said the college was established in 1992 as the highest military institution in the country,
dedicated to preparing officers for strategic responsibilities. With over 2,982 graduates, including participants from 30 African and Asian countries, the college plays a critical role in addressing security challenges.
He noted, “The college was dedicated to “selecting officers from military, police, and strategic agencies to prepare them for strategic responsibilities. The college has so far graduated 2,982 participants. Among them are many from 30 African and Asian countries.”
