ICIR Seeks to Hire Qualified Applicants for Three Roles

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) is interested to hire qualified journalists and professionals for its three key roles.

 

The three roles are Deputy Editor (Fact-check hub), Deputy News Editor and Sports Journalist.

 

For sports journalist, the organization highlighted that it is interested in a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced sports journalist to join their prestigious Media Organization.

 

Such journalist will be responsible for overseeing and leading sports information and reports around the world.

 

Responsibilities

• Preparing research materials such as statistics and background information on players and teams.
• Reporting on breaking news stories as they happen, including injuries, player suspensions, and other key details.
• Covering live sporting events such as games or competitions, reviewing performance of individual players, and interviewing participants.
• Conducting Critical Investigation on events in sports industry.
• Writing articles about specific sports and topics related to those sports, such as equipment or training techniques.
• Interviewing experts in the field to gather information for stories on topics such as health and fitness, injuries, nutrition, and mental health issues.
• Maintaining a strong understanding of the latest developments in the sports world and staying upto-date on the latest trends and controversies.
• Performing verification and fact-checking stories and sources to ensure the information is accurate.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
• 2-3years Proven experience within a reputable news organization
• Exceptional understanding of broadcast journalism principles, techniques, and standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• In-depth knowledge of sports insights and analysis
• Sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to make informed decision in a fast-paced environment.

Above all, the candidate must reside in Abuja, Nigeria.

 

FactCheckHub — Deputy Editor 

The FactCheckHub is a non-partisan arm of the ICIR for fact-checking with the primary aim of combating misinformation, disinformation, hoaxes and rumours about topical issues including COVID-19, elections, health and governance, among others.

 

Role: Deputy Editor (Fact-check)

The outlet said it is looking for an amazing, curious, OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) Investigator/Analyst. Such candidate will be expected to expand and develop its world-class investigations team in Nigeria, working alongside the team lead. Candidates will be working with its readers, product, and data teams, as well as partners to translate data into actionable insights.

 

Responsibilities

• Conducts OSINT collection and analysis in support of investigations related to potential online threats, misinformation, disinformation, and/or influence/information operations
• Authors written intelligence reports for internal use and/or publication.
• Assist in the planning, development and execution of activities in support of emerging fact-checking projects
• Utilizes requirements, directives, ancillary sources to obtain and disseminate intelligence related information from publicly available information (PAI)
• Participates in the development of collection strategies, postures and plans related to customer needs
• Prepares and presents briefings related to open source intelligence products/training opportunities for clients and potential customers

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

• BA/BS degree or equivalent media work experience
• Experience with open source intelligence collection, gathering and dissemination techniques, processes, and tools
• Candidates must have a demonstrable fact-checking portfolio (Include links to published fact-checks in your application).
• Strong customer services and interpersonal skills in order to maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers including our partners.
• Desirably a good editorial judgement related to the collection and analysis of intelligence information
• Strong written and communication skills
• Strong organizational skills creative thinker with an ability to analyze a wide array of data
• Has a keen eye for detail and applies “gut checks” to supplement fact-checking
• Is tech-savvy (i.e., understands Google Tools for fact-checking and can easily work with Google Docs, Google Sheet etc)

The ICIR is also seeking for a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced Head of News and Current Affairs to join our Media Organization.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and leading the production and delivery of high-quality news and current affairs.

 

This is a pivotal role that requires exceptional leadership, strategic thinking,and a deep understanding of the media landscape.

 

Responsibilities

• Familiarity with digital media platforms and an understanding of how to integrate multimedia elements into online content.
• Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS) and other digital tools.
• Extensive experience in journalism, typically with several years of editorial experience.
• Previous experience in a senior editorial role, such as an editor or senior reporter covering business and finance.
• Extensive experience in business journalism, financial reporting, or related fields.
• Strong understanding of business and financial concepts.
• Familiarity with economic trends, market dynamics, and the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
• Extensive experience in investigative journalism, with a proven track record of producing impactful investigative stories.
• Strong research skills to uncover hidden information, analyse data, and verify sources.
• Familiarity with investigative techniques and tools.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives from complex and sometimes sensitive information.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess the significance of information and draw connections between facts.
• Understanding of media law, ethics, and the legal considerations related to investigative journalism.
• Ability to work within legal and ethical boundaries while pursuing in-depth stories.
