ICIR Expands Team with Openings for Data Journalists and Fact-Checkers [Apply Within]

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), renowned for its commitment to high-impact, data-driven stories, has announced openings for two critical roles at its Abuja office: Data Journalist and Fact-Checker.

 

These new positions signal ICIR’s continued expansion in investigative journalism, aiming to strengthen its capacity in data storytelling and fact-checking.

 

Data Journalist Role

The ICIR is seeking a Data Journalist whose work will focus on collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data to uncover significant social, economic, and political trends. The selected candidate will collaborate with the editorial team, using data visualization tools to present data in an engaging way for diverse audiences.

 

The position emphasizes both creativity and technical expertise, requiring candidates with skills in data analysis and proficiency in tools like Tableau, Flourish, and Datawrapper.

 

The Data Journalist will also develop interactive tools, automated dashboards, and other digital content to enhance reader engagement.

 

Candidates for this role should have at least two years of experience in data journalism or data analysis, with a background in Journalism, Data Science, Statistics, or Computer Science. Fact-Checker Role

ICIR’s FactCheckHub is looking for a skilled Fact-Checker with experience in Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT). This role is central to ICIR’s mission to combat misinformation and disinformation, especially surrounding critical topics like elections, health, and governance. Fact-Checkers will conduct open-source intelligence collection and analysis, focusing on online threats, misinformation, and disinformation. The role also involves working with readers, partners, and the editorial team to translate data into actionable insights.

 

Ideal candidates for the Fact-Checker role should have a bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field, proficiency in OSINT tools, and experience with Google Tools. Applicants should also have a keen eye for detail and a background in fact-checking, as evidenced by their portfolio.
