HumAngle Foundation Seeks Application for Six-month Fellowship
The initiative is designed to promote accountability for human rights violations in rural areas and advance locally-led solutions across Northern Nigeria.
HumAngle Foundation has opened applications for its Strengthening Community Journalism and Human Rights Advocacy in Northern Nigeria (SCOJA) Fellowship.
The initiative is designed to promote accountability for human rights violations in rural areas and advance locally-led solutions across Northern Nigeria.
It will provide community journalists with skills to improve hyperlocal reporting and advocacy.
The call is targeted at community journalists and advocates in Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Kaduna and Kano states.
HumAngle Foundation says the Fellowship will feature a three-day training in Kaduna, Plateau and Borno, followed by a six-month period during which participants will produce stories and carry out advocacy engagements.
Training areas will cover human rights, digital safety, physical security, reporting on sexual and gender-based violence, accountability reporting, investigative journalism, climate change reporting, conflict-sensitive journalism, collaboration with civil society and government stakeholders, solutions journalism, inclusive storytelling, data-driven reporting, civic engagement, countering disinformation, press freedom and navigating legal challenges.
HumAngle Foundation expects applicants to be journalists or advocates working at the community level, residing in the target states, and committed to six months of active participation in reporting and advocacy.
Women are strongly encouraged to apply. Fellows will receive mentorship, support for story production, skill-building in advocacy and fact-checking, training in safety and security, peer-to-peer networking opportunities, and stipends for the duration of the programme.

Successful candidates must commit to attending the three-day training in one of the focal states, submitting monthly activity reports, producing at least three reports and one major advocacy initiative, participating in virtual sessions and surveys, and conducting step-down training within their organisations.
The deadline for applications is 10 October 2025.
