A Nigerian bibliophile, Samson Ajao, has recently announced his interest to break the Guinness World Record book for longest marathon reading aloud.
The announcement came on Monday through his Facebook handle, stating the exercise would be breaking the existing record of Rysbai Isakov from Bursa, Turkey, who read aloud for 124 hours on September 22nd-27th, 2022.
Ajao, calling on Nigerians for support, would be setting a new record of 214 hours, planning to topple the previous record with 100 hours.
In the piece posted on his Facebook, he wrote that “I am delighted to announce to the public that Guinness World Record has officially accepted my application to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest marathon reading aloud sets by Rysbai Isakov from Bursa, Turkey, who read aloud for 124 hours from September 22nd-27th, 2022.
“My quest towards breaking this record is not ordinarily about perseverance but about championing the cause of reading. Through this achievement I aim to ignite individuals to unlock the limitless of their potential and to value the importance of investing in education for the advancement of our society and the world as a whole.”
Samson Ajao was a former President, Students Union Government (SUG), Osun State Polytechnic, Iree and the current Chairman, Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan Old Boys Association of the 2014 Set (Elite Boys).
