GTB Can’t Explain How N10,000 went Missing in Transaction, says Complaint Long Overdue

The Abeokuta branch of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) Plc has informed Lawal Abiodun, a serving corps member in Ogun State, that his N10,000 transfer to an Opay account, which has been pending since March, cannot be reversed. The bank cited the delay in Abiodun’s complaint as the primary reason for this decision.

Abiodun initiated two transactions of N10,000 each in Akoda, Ede Osun State in March, 2024, but only one was successful. Despite this, the two transactions were debited from his GTB account.

Due to his preparation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, Abiodun was unable to visit the bank branch until August, when another N10,000 transaction faced a similar issue. Meanwhile, Abiodun had chatted with customer care agents several times since March of the transaction.

While the second transaction was successfully reversed at the GTB branch in Abeokuta, the customer care agent informed Abiodun that the first N10,000 failed transaction could not be reversed, attributing this decision to the delayed complaint.

Despite Abiodun’s request for clarification on the rationale behind the denial of refund, the agent reiterated that the delay in reporting the issue had impacted the bank’s ability to address the matter.

When asked, Abiodun says “delay is not denial. I want my money back. That’s Injustice.”
