On Friday, the Nigerian Police operatives from Obalende, Lagos State, arrested four individuals in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. The suspects are believed to have participated in an alleged arson attack on a Fulani camp that followed the reported killing of a young man in the Akowonjo area of Ogbomoso last year.
As of now, it is unclear how far the prosecution of the alleged killer has progressed. However, after the community had moved on from the incident, police stormed the outskirts of Ogbomoso to arrest the four suspects, who are identified as Oladejo Rotimi, Yinusa Tijani, David Oladeji, and Raheem Azeez.
According to Ogbomoso Insight Newspaper, the arrests stemmed from a petition submitted to the Inspector General of Police by a local Fulani leader named Adamu. In response, the community sent a delegation to the town’s monarch, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, seeking his intervention. However, the Oba is currently on a visit to Gombe.
Meanwhile, under the Oba’s direction, his aides attempted to address the situation, but the police remained adamant about transferring the suspects to Lagos.
The palace has said it is actively involved in the case. One of the colleagues of the arrested individuals expressed concern, stating, “Fulani herders killed our brother, and now they are arresting our innocent farmers.” He added, “But the palace has taken up the matter, and we have informed the Ogbomoso Parapo leadership.”
