Female Activist Arrested by Nigerian Police now Transferred to Abuja’s Notorious FCID
“Human rights activist Olamide Thomas has been unlawfully flown to FCID Abuja,” the group declared, demanding her immediate and unconditional release.
The Nigeria Police Force has transferred activist Abiodun Olamide Thomas, who was reportedly arrested illegally from her Lagos home by police operatives, to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja.
In a statement shared via its social media handle, the Take-It-Back Movement (TIB) condemned the transfer, describing it as part of an “illegal trial” allegedly sponsored by President Bola Tinubu, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Allegations of Police Overreach
SaharaReporters earlier disclosed plans by the police to relocate Thomas from Lagos to Abuja following her arrest on Friday. The activist, also known as Horlarmidey Africano, had been vocal about police excesses, especially after enduring physical abuse and theft during the #EndSARS memorial protest in October 2024.
Sources revealed that Lagos State Police Command spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin indicated that the IGP was personally invested in Thomas’ case. “The IG won’t take it lightly with her,” said one insider, who added that the transfer was meant to subject Thomas to psychological trauma.
The Arrest and Allegations
Thomas was apprehended in Lagos early Friday morning, reportedly after police arrested her brother and used him to locate her. Eyewitnesses claim she was taken from her residence in Somolu to Alade Police Station before being moved to Abuja via the Nigeria Police Force Courier Service.
In a November interview, Thomas had accused ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi of targeting her for her outspoken criticism of police brutality. “He might have been looking for an opportunity to pick me up,” she said, alleging that the police’s Intelligence Response Team had been deployed to track her movements.

The activist’s troubles stem from her participation in the #EndSARS memorial protests, where she suffered police brutality, including the destruction of her phone and theft of personal funds.
Efforts to reach ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi for comments have so far been unsuccessful.
