FACTCHECK: Was Naira Marley Among Lewisham Police Wanted List?
The Claim: Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley image was declared among the wanted faces of Lewisham Police Station in 2014.
The claim has since yesterday posted generated heated reactions on Social Media after some popular gist blogs posted the picture.
The claim was coming to light after the demise of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as MohBad who was rumoured to have died as a result of bullies from Naira Marley and Sam Larry, his pal.
The SaharaReporters also reported the same claim in June 2014, noting that Naira Marley was declared among the wanted faces.
The newspaper added that Marley was arrested as a first time offender by the Lewisham Police officers.
Findings by PIJAlance found that Naira Marley, referred to as Azeez Fashola, 19, was declared among the wanted faces of Lewisham Police Station in 2014.
A newspaper, known as News Shopper, since 2001, reported the name Azeez Fashola, among the faces of men wanted by the Lewisham Police.
The reasons were for crimes ranging from robbery to sexual assault on a night bus.
The PIJAlance contacted the Lewisham Police Station to confirm this through the use of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) but was given 28 days before it is going to reply.
However, according to the News Shopper, “these are the latest faces of men wanted by Lewisham Police for crimes ranging from robbery to sexual assault on a night bus.”
Verdict: Based on the findings by the News Shopper, Naira Marley was declared among the wanted faces by Lewisham Police.
