Dispatch Rider, One Other Assaulted by NURTW Official Reportedly Die as Police Arrest Culprit
The deceased’s uncle, Agboola Odunfa, in a statement, accused Shamusideen for beating his 38-year-old nephew to a pulp along Tapa Street, off Sura Bus Stop.
A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos Island, Adio Shamusideen, aka Shemeloon, has been arrested for killing a dispatch rider and a Lagos resident, Rahmon Imam, after beating both of them to a pulp.
The deceased’s uncle, Agboola Odunfa, in a statement, accused Shamusideen for beating his 38-year-old nephew to a pulp along Tapa Street, off Sura Bus Stop.
“One thug agbero Adio Shamusideen nicknamed shamelon stopped a Keke Marwa operator and was beating him to extort money from him. A passenger, Ramon Imam, intervened to pacify Adio shamusideen to leave the Keke.
“Rather than let go, he pounced on Mr Ramon Imam, beating him to a pulp and got hospitalised. He died three weeks after, being yesterday the 17th of September,” Mr Odunfa said.
The NURTW member also “beat up” another dispatch rider “to a coma who as well died on 18th of September 2025”. The case was reported at Central police station, leading to the accused’s arrest on Thursday.
Spokeswoman for the police command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed to Peoples Gazette that Mr Shamusideen had been arrested and that the case had been transferred to the homicide section of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department.
“The case at hand is about one Shameloon who beat somebody and they said that later on, the person later died but the case was officially reported today, not yesterday or before now, and immediately.
“It has been transferred to the State CID for investigation, with homicide, and you know I can’t say much about a case that is under investigation,” Ms Adebisi said.
