Diaspora Africa, IOM Train PIJAlance Journalist, 19 Others on Climate Migration Reporting

Diaspora Africa, an organization working towards documenting climate migrations across Africa has recently collaborated with the International Organization of Migration (IOM), to train 20 participants on Climate Migration Reporting.

The training took place in July at the IOM Lagos, Nigeria office headquartered in Ikeja, has the PIJAlance Magazine journalist, Enoch Oyedibu, among the participants.

With several resourced facilitators from top media organisations across Africa, the training saw the selected 20 getting equipped with required knowledge it takes to report on climate migration.

The selected participants, who were described by the organizer of the program as those who “stand out in their careers as journalists, news writers and content specialists working from Nigeria,” attended the training for 2-days without hassles.

According to the Co-founder of the organization, Chimee Adịọha, the training “served as a learning hub to understand and engage with journalism that caters to African migration in contemporary times.”

Adịọha is of the view that the training would empower and equip journalists as they go on and continue to do their individual work “and possibly, now wear better spectacles while reporting or writing about climate migration or even migration in general.” 

While the selected and trained journalists were encouraged to work on “a report around climate migration or migration in the context of Africa,”  the organization; Diaspora Africa & IOM promised to offer certificates of participation to record and reward the journalists’ meaningful contribution to the program.

“Diaspora Africa will also launch a web page that features the idea and philosophy of the training as well as a cohort list, testimonials, and other relevant details,” Chimee Adịọha wrote.
