Corps Member Donates N6M Grant, Provide Water for Community Struggling with Scarcity
Umar Abukakar, a Bauchi native, has stunned the nation by choosing to use a N6 million grant from a digital firm to address the water scarcity crisis in Kwaga village, Toro Local Government, something some government officials are struggling to do.
Abubakar was awarded the grant by Shubnobi after discussing his life story and dedication to his work with the company’s CEO, Cliff Fettner. Despite the significant financial impact the grant could have had on his own life, Abubakar saw it as an opportunity to improve the lives of those in his community struggling with limited access to clean water.
He reached out to Shubnobi and asked if they would be willing to redirect the funds towards providing clean water for his village. Fettner agreed and asked Abubakar to provide an estimate for the project.
With the help of a local borehole drilling company, Abubakar secured an estimate of N8 million and, with the N6 million grant from Shubnobi and an additional N2 million raised by the community, was able to construct a 100-meter borehole with a steel overhead tank and solar panel.
Thanks to Abubakar’s selfless act, his community now has access to clean drinking water. “I am very much fulfilled,” he said.
