Breaking: Ondo Losses year-old monarch

Olujare of Ijare, Oba Adebamigbe Oluwagbemigun, Kokotiri II has passed on.

 

Ijare, in Ifedore Local Government area of Ondo State, was the community where 36 cows were struck to death by lightening in 2019.

 

Sapetu of Ijareland, High Chief Wemimo Olaniran confirmed the incident.

 

He said, “Baba has joined his ancestors. The traditional rites have commenced.”

 

It was gathered that the traditional ruler, who assumed throne in 1996 passed away at the age of 83 after a brief illness.

 

Our correspondent learnt that inline with the tradition of the town, one of the high chiefs of the town will begin to act as the regent until a new monarch emerges .

On September 22, 2019, no fewer than 36 cows belonging to some Fulani herdsmen were struck dead by lightning in Ijare Community, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

 

 

The herders had taken their cattle to Oke Owa bush, where, by tradition, only the king is permitted to enter it, because it is regarded as sacred.

 

None of the herdsmen died, however, because they ran away when their cattle were struck dead, sources said.

 

But the Ondo State Police Command said it was “natural disaster.”

 

“It was a natural disaster and there is nothing anyone can do about it,” the command noted.
