Gunmen have killed a retired Air Vice Marshal in Kaduna.

AVM Mohammed Maisaka was killed in his house in the Rigasa area of Igabi council in the wee hours of yesterday, police said.

The retired officer was proprietor and managing director of MSK Hospital, which he built in densely-populated Rigasa to help the locals.

Maisaka was once Director of Nigerian Air Force Medical Services, and lecturer at ABU Teaching Hospital where he taught Internal Medicine.

A family source Abubakar Gwantu said the gunmen killed Maisaka in his living room in the presence of his wife.

“They first visited the boys quarters and forced the AVM’s personal physiologist to lead them to the main house. They killed him instantly.

“It is certainly a case of a planned murder because the gunmen told his wife that they didn’t have any business with her. They casually left the house without picking a thing or threatening anyone,” he said.

Maisaka was paralysed for a few years, Gwantu said, and was in rehabilitation before he was killed.

“Whoever is responsible for this must have held long grudges against him because Maisaka has long not been in circulation, but only going for treatment abroad, convalescing at home or at a local hospital.”

Police spokesman Muhammad Jalige said Maisaka’s gateman was wounded in the attack, adding that the Commissioner of Police Mudassiru Abdullah directed the Divisional Police Officer and the Area Commander to the scene.

The AVM’s body has been evacuated to a morgue while the wounded gateman was taken for treatment, Jalige said.
