BREAKING: Detained FoodCo Employee, Janet Regains Freedom After Eight Days in Detention
An employee of FoodCo Nigeria Limited, Adesina Janet, who was detained over an alleged ₦24,785 missing transaction on December 16, 2024, has regained freedom after meeting her bail conditions.
PIJAlance exclusively learnt about the development through a sister to Janet on Friday via WhatsApp.
Recalled PIJAlance reports that Janet was arrested last Friday for allegedly stealing ₦24,785 in an untraceable transaction.
The allegation was first brought to her by FoodCo’s Monatan, Ibadan, Oyo State capital (where she works before her arrest) branch manager, Abraham Oriafoh.
Janet has denied the allegations, citing possible system errors which colleagues say are common.
However, her pleas were not considered. She was handed over to the police on last Friday and upon her arrest, she was kept in Iyaganku police cell for five days before she was hurriedly arraigned on Tuesday before a magistrate court in Ibadan.
In the charged sheet filed by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Janet’s alleged ₦24,785 offence was described as felonious.
The charged sheet signed by one CSP, Daniel Oboyi, puts Janet’s alleged stolen worth of goods at ₦18,728,967, suddenly veering off from the initial ₦24,785 allegations.
Both Oriafoh and Chief Security Officer of FoodCo, Opeyemi Oluwaseun Agunloye (ThinkTall), who represented the company in the COP charge against Janet, have declined to comment on how ₦24,785 turned to ₦18,728,967 in the allegations brought against Janet.
Meanwhile, the magistrate Court accepted Janet’s application for bail at ₦8m with two sureties having the same worth of properties.
Pending the time to meet the bail conditions, Janet was then remanded in Agodi correctional centre in Ibadan since Tuesday until her final release today (Friday).
Her next trial has been slated to March 24, 2025.
