From the old 2go to struggling Telegram, Signal and Whatssap stealing every show, the life of an app can be cut short in the rapidly changing world of digital technology. Sometimes, it may be due to shifting requirements, personal preferences, or even security issues; what’s so incumbent is that people often say goodbye to beloved applications when another favourites arrive. This starts a never-ending cycle of app adoption and deactivation.
In 2023, the digital landscape underwent a dramatic transformation. Some users bid adieu to apps that had previously controlled their digital lives and welcomed new platforms, but these act did not have impacts on most of these apps, as there were over 1 billion record of new users. So, it make it hard to say one app is ranked most deleted.
But according to a Google search, Meta Social media app, Instagram tops the most deleted apps, out of 10, in 2023, a post by X user, @DogeDesigner notes with Elon Musk, the platform boss reposts it with the caption, “interesting.”
However, Datareportal Statistics referred to only states that Instagram is the social media network users were “most eager” to delete (not the most deleted) with over 1 million people worldwide searching ‘how to delete (my) instagram account’ every month in 2023.
Other Apps ranked are Facebook, which a post by TechRound, notes that there were remarkably, 3.03 billion app removals from Facebook place it as the most deleted app, according to publications like TRG Datacenters.
Snapchat, Twitter / X, WhatsApp, Telegram, TikTok, WeChat, YouTube and Facebook Messenger were also ranked among the most removed apps from the previous year.
Moreover, what Musk didn’t know is, as Instagram was ‘misrepresented’ by a user post in the ranking of the most deleted App, X, is not misrepresented. Datareportal ranked X as fourth of the Apps users want to delete out of their smartphones.
In fact, in July, 2023, the Time Magazine reported that X surge in harmful content. In the article, Time Magazine states that X’s approach to managing hate speech focuses on limiting the number of times people see it, not the volume of the content itself. X representative told Bloomberg that X impressions of hate speech content are 30% lower on average than before Musk’s acquisition.
Corresponding to this, in 2023, ABC company, one of the largest media organization in Asia, left X for hate speech, and online attacks to its journalists.
Despite this, according to Statistics from Statista, most popular social networks worldwide as of January 2024, Facebook was ranked number one with over 3.046 million by number of monthly active users.
Instagram was ranked fourth with 2000 million active users while X, was ranked 12th, out of 15 networks, with 619 active users..
A recent data by the Datareportal too shows that Facebook remains the world’s most widely used social media platform, but there are now six social media platforms that each claim one billion or more monthly active users. X/Twitter does not make it to the tenth platform. It maintained the twelfth with 619 million active users in July 2023.
Instagram was also the most downloaded app of 2023 with 696 million downloads. TikTok, which was the most downloaded the three previous years, had 654 million downloads.
