Archivi.ng Open Second Fellowship, Plans to Offer N1m Monthly to Selected Fellows
The fellowship, themed “The More Things Change,” seeks to interrogate why Nigeria keeps repeating the same socio-political and economic patterns despite decades of transformation.
Archivi.ng has announced applications for the second cohort of its prestigious fellowship programme, inviting storytellers, technologists, and researchers to embark on a six-month journey into Nigeria’s complex historical landscape.
The fellowship, themed “The More Things Change,” seeks to interrogate why Nigeria keeps repeating the same socio-political and economic patterns despite decades of transformation.
According to the Organisers, the 2026 cohort, scheduled to run from January to June, will focus on uncovering historical cycles that continue to shape modern Nigeria. “We’re asking a deceptively simple question,” the organisers wrote. “Why does Nigeria keep repeating the same patterns—in our politics, in our economy, in our daily lives, and everything in between?”
Applicants are expected to propose ambitious projects rooted in archival materials such as newspapers, magazines, audiovisuals, or other records that capture Nigeria’s evolving story. Whether it’s through a film, dataset, research paper, or digital tool, fellows are expected to produce work that “moves people, sharpens understanding, and endures.”
Three project tracks are available. Storytelling, for creators producing narratives that link the past with the present; Research, for those developing analytical works that bring clarity to Nigeria’s historical context; and Technology, for developers turning archives into interactive tools like databases, bots, or timelines.
The fellowship is open to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, with six slots available in total and a maximum of two reserved for diaspora-based fellows. Successful applicants will receive a ₦1 million monthly stipend and at least another ₦1 million in project support over the course of the fellowship. Participants will also gain access to Archivi.ng’s extensive archives, digital tools, peer learning circles, and publishing or exhibition opportunities.
Applications close byOctober 31, 2025, with shortlisted candidates expected to be notified by November 30, 2025.
The selection process will involve two stages, an initial review of proposals for feasibility and alignment, followed by interviews to assess commitment and capacity to deliver within the six-month timeline.
The organisers emphasised that the fellowship is not a team-based programme but encourages collaboration during project execution.
Fellows will retain full intellectual property rights over their work while granting Archivi.ng a licence to publish and integrate their outputs for long-term accessibility.
“This fellowship is for anyone obsessed with questions, ideas, stories, or tools that help us make sense of Nigerian history,” Archivi.ng said in its call for applications. “We can’t break cycles we don’t understand. Join us—let’s make something that endures.”
