The All Progressives Congress (APC) has openly criticized Governor Seyi Makinde’s focus on his 2027 political ambitions, describing it as “unhinged” and a disservice to the citizens of Oyo State. The APC claims that Makinde has become the “leading but rather shoddy drummer” for his ambitions while neglecting the essential responsibilities he was elected to fulfill.
In a statement signed by Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, the party condemned Makinde’s recent remarks blaming the APC for turmoil within his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition circles. Morka argued that rather than pointing fingers, Makinde should take responsibility for his party’s ongoing challenges, stating, “Like the proverbial bad workman who blames his tools, Makinde and his co-confused leaders of the PDP should quit pointing fingers at the APC and take full responsibility for their disgraceful failure to handle the party’s implosion and decay.”

APC’s statement also questioned Makinde’s ability to represent Oyo citizens, arguing that his so-called alliance with Osun State’s leadership to strengthen the PDP in the southwest is merely a distraction from his shortcomings. Morka added that Makinde’s alleged alliance with his Osun counterpart will likely have little impact on APC’s influence, as Makinde has yet to demonstrate any effective strategy that could shield his party from external forces.
Critics within the APC suggest that Makinde’s fixation on future political aspirations is at odds with his primary obligation to address Oyo’s pressing issues. The APC concluded that while democracy grants Makinde the freedom to aspire, “reckless executive flippancy” at the expense of his duties is a failure to the people of Oyo.
