ALLEGED FRAUD: 326 Days Today UBA illegally Deducted Customer’s N77,000, Still Not Refunded

When they deducted my 50k, I trust their decision then because I believe they are a financial institution and they know better than I do but not until they come again and debited my #27,000.

It is already 326 days today that United Bank for Africa has illegally deducted N50,000 thousand naira and in 62 days it has deducted N27,000 thousand naira solely from Ibrahim Tunde Aileru, despite not doing any transaction.

The commercial bank has yet to refund him until today despite several complaints.

In a schmooze with our correspondent, the victim painfully explained his ordeals while adding that all attempts to get refunded were in futility.

He said after reaching out to UBA in one of his nearest branches, with no edible solution, he repeatedly reached out to it through its verified Twitter profile but was not refunded, as well.

Ibrahim Tunde Aileru stated that was at first debited N50,000 thousand naira on January 16 2022 for a failed transaction one of the UBA’s staff members said He did around December 2021.

Debit alert of N50,000 thousand naira deducted by UBA from Ibrahim Tunde Aileru’s account on January 16, 2022. The customer care agent said the deduction was a result of a transaction He did on December 2021.

“They debited me 50k in January this year but they told me I initiated a transaction on December 2021 and (I) mumu accepted,” Ibrahim quoted.

“I was a fool to accept the decision since it is a financial institution.

“I did a lot of transactions and during those times it all went successfully without being reversed so why deduct my money for transactions that I didn’t even initiate?”

However, on August 11 2022, Mr Aileru attempted to transfer a sum of N27,000 thousand naira to someone. The transaction was unsuccessful as the money was reversed.

Based on this Mr Aileru initiated another transaction which was a sum of N27,300 thousand naira and this time, was a success.

Aggrieved, the victim said barely two months after, United Bank for Africa deducted another N27,000 naira from his account with no definite reasons as to why it was deducted.

When visited one of the nearest branches of the commercial bank to him in Abeokuta, the UBA staffer told Mr Aileru, was again debited N27,000 naira for a transaction he made on August 11, 2022.

Having explained to the staff member that it was reversed, the staff member attending to him said, when he first made the reversed N27,000 thousand naira transfer, UBA credited the third party on his behalf and that was the reason for the October 7 deduction which was to replace the amount credited on behalf of him to the third party.

“I,” Aileru said, “initiated a transaction (N27,000) on August 11, so the money was reversed back to my account on August 12, 2022.

“So I have to send that person 27,300 again. And that was on the 14th of August (sic). So, now, a month later, I just got a debit alert of N27,000. That was on October 7.

“So I have to write to UBA on Twitter and I tried to go to the bank. But at the bank, the customer care agent told me that the money I initiated on 11th August was reversed to my account. But on my behalf, the money was credited to the third-party account.

“So I was surprised since when banks credit money on behalf of customers? So they told me that I have to pay and the deduction is me paying back the money. So that was why they just have to hold on… because first of all they first hold on to the money. I saw it on my bank app, but I couldn’t access it.

“And when I got to the bank, I was really confused I don’t know what to say so I have to leave the bank. I think, a week after, they now deducted the money from my account finally.

“When they deducted my 50k, I trust their decision then because I believe they are a financial institution and they know better than I do but not until they come again and debited my #27,000. It is frustrating.”

Aileru also said on November 30, someone sent him a sum of N2,000 thousand naira and until today, the money is still hanging inside the system of UBA. It has yet to be credited to his account.

Worthy of note, until the time of filing this report, UBA has yet to refund Mr Ibrahim Tunde Aileru any of the monetary complaints.
