Al Jazeera Institute Seeks Journalists, Researchers for 3-month fellowship
The fellowship contributes to the ongoing efforts of many Arab and international institutions to improve journalism, particularly digital journalism, across the Arabian countries.
Al Jazeera Media Institute, an institution affiliated with the Al Jazeera Media Network, is inviting journalists and researchers to apply for a three-month fellowship programme, based on media research, beginning in 2026.
The fellowship contributes to the ongoing efforts of many Arab and international institutions to improve journalism, particularly digital journalism, across the Arabian countries.
Applicants are expected to bear the fellowship’s objectives in mind while applying and are expected to apply with a project proposal addressing the following fields of interest, but not limited to them: journalism and the Global South, digital journalism, new schools in journalism, journalism ethics and media institutions and challenges.
Each research proposal is expected to have an introduction to the topic, stating the proposal and the questions the research aims to answer; the reason the subject is of particular importance; a summary of the research methodology and the theories/approaches that the researcher will use; and the tools and procedures the researcher will use to collect, analyse and interpret the data,” the organiser says.
It also adds that the proposal must state “the main challenges that the researcher expects to face during the research, an explanation of how journalists could benefit from the final research, and an explanation of how the placement at Al Jazeera headquarters will benefit the research project.”
The Fellowship programme seeks to encourage research in media and other fields of journalism, as well as to provide fellows with the opportunity to learn through practical experience within the Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN).
Full-time journalists and researchers with backgrounds in media or social sciences can apply. Applicants with proposals focused on digital journalism will be given the utmost priority.
The duration of the programme will take 3 months to complete, divided into two main phases:
Phase 1Â (to be completed remotely): The researcher will draft and submit a research plan and an introduction to their research paper before proceeding to phase 2.
Phase 2 (To be completed at Al Jazeera Media Network Headquarters): The researcher will continue the research until the final submission of the paper.
The deadline for this fellowship is December 04. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera Media Institute also offers the Visiting Fellowship Programme, which is expected to open for applications shortly.
