The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued a writ of summon to the former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, over Criminal Breach of Trust and illegal possession of property.
Bello, 49, has been under the radar of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since the beginning of this year. Last month, the case was intense, leading to gunshots exchange between the police and the commission operatives.
In September, Kogi State House of Assembly let out an inexcusable rant, decrying the Chairman of EFCC Ola Olukoyede for how he treated the case of Bello. They also asked for his removal over what they called a threatening case on the former governor’s life.
Meanwhile, EFCC is after Bello for alleged N80.2bn fraud while in office as the Governor.
After Governor Bello had flouted different summons, the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued out another summon dated back to October 3.
According to the document of the summon, a copy which the PIJAlance has through the verified handle of the EFCC, Bello is expected to appear in court on 14th of November, 2024 to defend his case.
The summon reads: “Complaint has been made this day on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that you (YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO) sometimes within the year 2016 up until 2023 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did commit offences to wit: Criminal Breach of Trust contrary to Section 311 of Penal Code Law Cap. 89 Laws of Northern Nigeria 1963, Punishable under SECTION 312 of same Law; and Having possession or control of property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained contrary to and punishable under Section 319A of the Penal Code Law, Cap. 89 Laws of the Northern Nigeria 1963.
“You are hereby summoned to appear before the Federal Capital Territory High Court of Justice (High Court No. 3) sitting at Maitama on the 14th day of November 2024 at the hour of 9:00am to answer to the said complaint.”
